Note: As per the Aadhaar Act, e-Aadhaar is as valid as the physical Aadhaar card for all purposes. The digitally signed e-Aadhaar, which can be downloaded from the UIDAI website, is legally recognised as a valid proof of identity and address. It can be used to avail government schemes, banking services, mobile connections and other essential services just like the physical Aadhaar card. e-Aadhaar is password protected and has a QR code for instant verification, ensuring both security and authenticity.

1 Through (MyAadhaar) UIDAI Official webPortal

Visit the official website: https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/.
Click on the 'Download Aadhaar' link.

On the new page, enter 12-digit Aadhaar number, 16-digit Virtual ID (VID) number and 28-digit Enrolment ID (EID) number.
If you have Aadhaar number then enter it, else use EID or VID.

During application EID (Enrolment ID) provides a 28-digit tracking code but UID (Unique Identification Number) stands as a 12-digit proof of identity which receives completion approval.

You must press the 'Send OTP' button before you input the OTP received through your registered mobile number.
Now Click on the Verify Button then Click on the Download button.
Your Aadhaar card will be downloaded to your device.

If your mobile number is not linked with your Aadhaar, you will have to visit the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra to update it.

Note: If you forget Aadhaar or Enrolment ID number Your can Retrieve EID/Aadhaar number by entering your name or mobile or email which retrieves your information through an OTP.

2. Through mAadhaar Mobile Application

If want to download Aadhar using the mAadhaar application, follow the steps provided below:

Install mAadhaar App: To begin install the mAadhaar App onto your smartphone from either the Android or iOS platform. Users can install the mAadhaar application from Android and iOS operating systems.

Open the mAadhaar App and Register:Users should open the app then register by providing their registered mobile number while using the OTP for verification.
Go to the Dashboard:After finishing the registration process you will proceed to the application dashboard. Use the Download Aadhaar option which is available in this screen. Click on it.

Choose Aadhaar Type: You will see two options Regular Aadhaar and Masked Aadhaar. Choose one as per your need.

Regular Aadhaar: Displays all digits of the Aadhaar number.
Masked Aadhaar: Hides the first 8 digits of the Aadhaar number.

Enter Required Information: Enter your Aadhaar Number, VID Number, or Enrolment ID Number, and fill out the captcha code.

Receive OTP: Now Click on the Request OTP Button and enter the OTP will received on your registered mobile number.
Download Aadhaar Card:after that Users should select the Open option after entering their OTP. The electronic download of your PDF Aadhaar copy can now begin.

Important Note: The E-Copy of your Aadhaar card will be downloaded on PDF Format in your mobile.

3. Download Aadhaar through DigiLocker

DigiLocker allows individuals to access Aadhaar without physical documents through their mobile device while maintaining the authenticity of the document.

Step 1: Log in to DigiLocker
- Visit the DigiLocker website ( digilocker.gov.in) or open the DigiLocker mobile app (available on Android and iOS).
- Log in using your credentials such as mobile number, Aadhaar number, and username along with the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.

If you have not an account, then create a new one using your mobile number and email that linked with yoyr adharcard.

Step 2: Find out Aadhaar Services
- After login your account, click on the Search Document tab and search for your Aadhaar Card.
- In the search results, click on the adhaar Card Image display on your screen.

Step 3: Provide Aadhaar Details
- Users can view their Aadhaar card by entering provided Aadhaar number along with the OTP that arrived through their registered mobile number.
Step 4: Download Your Aadhaar
- Once you successfully verify your OTP with DigiLocker the system will obtain your UIDAI Aadhaar information.
- To download your Aadhaar card, go to the 'Issued Documents' section, click the download icon, and enter the OTP sent to your mobile.
- You can download it as a PDF or access it anytime through the application.

4 Download through the UMANG Portal

Aadhaar cardholders who wish to download their document through the UMANG portal can refer to the following sequence of steps:

Step 1: Log In to the UMANG Portal
- Open your google browser and visit the official UMANG portal at web.umang.gov.in.
- If you are using this portal first-time then follow these steps:
  - Register yourself by through your mobile number or email ID.
  - Set a strong password to secure your account.
  - Verify your mobile number or email address using the OTP sent to your registered details.

If you already have a account, then simply log in your account using your (mobile number, email ID, or username).

Step 2: Select the My Aadhaar button
- Once your logged in, you will see a dashboard with a list of available services.
- Find out the Aadhaar section under the Aadhaar-related services.
- Click on it to proceed button to the Aadhaar service options.

Step 3: Select the Download Aadhaar Option
- In the My Aadhaar section, a list of Aadhaar services will be displayed on your screen, such as:
  - Update Aadhaar
  - Check Aadhaar Status
  - Locate Enrolment Centers
  - Download Aadhaar
- Select the Download Aadhaar option to continue.

Step 4: Verification Process
- A new page will be shown on your screen, then proceed with the verification process.
- Click the Proceed button or similar button to start the Aadhaar verification.
Step 5: Enter Aadhaar Number and with OTP
- On the new page, you will be asked to enter your Aadhaar number or VID (Virtual ID).
- Ensure you enter the correct 12-digit Aadhaar number.
- After entering the number, an OTP will be sent to your mobile number that link with Aadhar card.
- Enter the OTP in the required field to authenticate your request.
Step 6: Download Aadhaar Card
- After successful OTP verification, click on the Verify & Download button.
- Your e-Aadhaar will be generated and downloaded in PDF format.

The downloaded version of Aadhaar PDF requires a password for access. Users can open the downloaded PDF by using the initial capital letters from their name on Aadhaar followed by their year of birth (YYYY).

E-Aadhaar Password

The PDF file of your Aadhaar e-card requires an Aadhaar password to open since this file has a password protection feature. A password consisting of 8 characters is derived from individual information.

Note: The security password to access Aadhaar PDF files consists of the first four capital letters from your Aadhaar name record together with your date of birth.

The official standards for Aadhaar PDF passwords underwent modifications in the beginning of 2019. The Aadhaar e-PDF used to require your address-associated PIN as the opening password until an earlier period in 2019.

UIDAI implemented the present identification pattern consisting of capitalized first name initials followed by birthyear recorded as YYYY sequence.

This change was made to increase security and standardize the process for all users. There was no specific public announcement stating the exact date, but the change was widely noticed around 2019.

The updated format helps make the password system more personalized and secure for users.

What is Aadhaar Card?

The UIDAI issues Aadhaar cards as mandatory identification documents which contain specific 12-digit numbers to verify that the holder is a resident of India. The UIDAI began operations in January 2009 to distribute more than 1.98 billion Aadhaar numbers as of December 2025.

By associating with a 12-digit Aadhaar number every individual acquires a digital identity that enables either identification through biometric data (fingerprint and iris scans) or by receiving a one-time password (OTP) to their registered mobile number.

What is e-Aadhaar?

E-Aadhaar represents as electronic version of your Aadhaar card holding a digital signature from Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).
